Learning as we go

I’ve changed the security program that monitors our website and things seem to be flowing a lot better.  I recently updated a bunch of things including some minor wording changes on our cover letter, added a page for our sending church and mission board as well as updated/added a prayer letter sign up form at the bottom of the prayer letter page.

I also went through and added all the meetings for 2016 that we currently have scheduled.  We are at 36% of our needed support right now and after 18 months of full time deputation I’m aiming to be finished in 2 1/2 years.  If God allows us to that is.  I understand that deputation is about learning more than it is support.  God will bring the support when we have learned whatever it is that He is trying to teach us but I know that if you aim for nothing, you will hit it every time.  I’m a slow learner and they tell us the average time for deputation now is 3 to 5 years.  As much as I want to be fully in God’s will, doing what He wants us to be doing, I really don’t want to be on deputation for 4 or 5 years.  Please pray we learn quickly and that He brings the support just as quickly.

The way God does things

When we started deputation, I wanted a minivan or an RV.  I wanted the extra space and flexibility these vehicles would give me.  God said no so I asked Him to show me how to be happy in the vehicle we had.  He took us to a church that gave us a basket carrier for the back of our vehicle that truly made a difference.  When Michael was born, we knew our vehicle wasn’t going to work with all the stuff a baby needs.

I asked God to either give me a larger vehicle or show me how to make what we have work.

God has given me meetings I have to fly to which means the family will probably have to stay home.  He also gave my daughter, Alana, mono.  That means she’s going to not be able to travel for a few months.  Finally, He’s given me several short distance or quick trips that mean we don’t have to pack as much.

All this means our current car still works very well for deputation.  God does things a little differently than we expect sometimes but it’s always the best way.

I’m back

Well, I’ve been locked out of our website for the past 3 months basically because of hacking attempts.  I finally found a way around my security plugin in order to remove it and change it so I should now be back.  I’m hoping to post at least weekly.

A lot of the posts I’ve tried to make in the past have been deleted before they got posted.  I have trouble seeing God and what He is doing at times so I try to help Him out with a blog post, a prayer letter comment, a facebook post or just random conversation with someone.  However, I’m getting a lot better at seeing God moving before I hit that post button but not always.  Posts about a new car, pastors not answering their phone, disagreements between churches and so much more have more often than not, been deleted before they got posted.  I am seeing God teach and train me.  I’m just slow in the learning of lessons.

Sometimes the lack of posts isn’t because I have nothing to say, it’s because I’m learning to keep my mouth shut and lean on God more.

Still having trouble

I’m still having trouble with lockouts and security.  So far no one has been able to hack the website but I’ve been locked out a time or two.  It’s frustrating but I’m learning a little bit each time.  I’ll try to get more timely in my updates as I get a better handle on this security issue.

It’s been a while

It’s been a fairly long while since I posted.  Several things have caused that.

1.  Back in March I posted an ad on the Baptist Classified webpage looking for meetings.  It was poorly written and generated no responses but it did put my webpage on the radar of hackers.  Since then, I have been attacked very regularly.  I stopped posting in the hopes that it would diminish my visibility and reduce the attacks.  However, my webpage has a very popular weakness for wordpress websites and the attacks have only increased.  I’m getting attacked now roughly 10-20 times an hour.  The weakness is plugged and I’ve taken additional steps to protect the website but the attacks continue to increase.  However, God has not given us a spirit of fear so I’m going to try and post some more.

2.  Summer.  Meetings during this summer became pretty sparse so I took the time to get other things done.  It no where near as exciting as meetings but it was things that needed to be done.  God’s timing is perfect in everything

3.  Sheila’s pregnancy.  The excitement and challenges of answered prayer kept me busy as well as doctor visits and a small medical issue that resulted in a 2 day hospital stay for Sheila.

4.  I’m lazy, tend to procrastinate and don’t manage my time nearly as well as I should.

I’m working on getting posts up much more often.  Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

A wise man once told me “There are ditches on both sides of the road and satan doesn’t care which one he gets you in.”  As we continue on deputation I learn more and more what that means.  Please pray for us as I try to learn what God has me to learn without falling into any ditches.

I’m gonna be a daddy again!!!!

Sheila is pregnant and we are expecting another baby.  She hasn’t been to the doctor yet because of travels but we believe the baby is due near the end of November.  Please pray for health and safety as well as comfortable travels.  Still haven’t completely processed this but we are very excited.

Recent hacking attacks

Recently, this website has gotten a lot of new registered users and login attempts.  The users are listed on most spambot websites as robots.  I delete them as soon after I am notified about them as I can.  However, I recently had an attempt to login under MY username.

If you see anything strange or unsettling on the website, please let me know at

Independent Baptist Classified Ads

I recently posted an ad on a website that lists classified ads for independent Baptists.  I didn’t want to sound greedy or needy but I wanted to see if God might use it to bring meetings I might otherwise miss.  The title was supposed to be “Missionaries seeking meetings and support” but got shortened to “Missionaries seeking support”.  An unfortunate shortening of the title but it’s still in God’s hands.

If you are here because of that ad, Thank you for taking the time to stop by.  I have my meetings posted on the calender here and it should be up to date.  If you have any questions, please ask and I will try to answer as honestly and best I can.

We are seeking meetings and support but we will go anywhere God opens the door up.  He has taken us to very small churches (4 in the service at one church we presented at) and very large ones.   Each place God takes us to, He has something for us.  Prayer support, encouragement, knowledge, contacts and sometimes financial support.  Currently we are at 20% suppport so we try to keep to shorter trips (6 to 12 hours from Memphis) but if God opens  a door to a meeting, He will get us there as well.

We don’t sing or play musical instruments at all but are willing to work or help out in any way we can.

Thank you and God Bless
